The challenge

Datamaran helps big companies assess ESG risks, opportunities and impacts through multiple Sustainability Experts. However, comparing reviewer assessments made the review process really slow and fragmented.

The solution

A unified multi-reviewer workspace brought every assessment into a single view, allowing owners to compare Sustainability expert opinions more efficiently while supporting unlimited reviewers and faster validation.

Previously, reviewer assessments were isolated. To compare them, owners had to duplicate IROs or rely on external tools and manual workflows.

Process

The project combined several UX explorations, Customer success and stakeholder collaboration and iterative design to simplify complex review workflows while meeting strict development constraints.

Design process

Although the final concept seemed to solve the problem, some customers needed a solution much sooner. Sales had already committed to a delivery date that was shorter than the estimated development time, so we explored the idea of building an interim solution first, and delivering the final one later. To support this option, I designed two interim concepts by reusing existing workflows and components, reducing the amount of new development required.

I was concerned that building an interim solution could shift the team's focus away from the better long-term solution. I encouraged the team to find together alternatives to speed up the final implementation instead.

By refining the design, removing non-essential elements, and keeping the sprint focused, we simplified the experience while preserving the core functionality. This allowed us to deliver the final solution within the agreed 15 days, making the interim solution unnecessary and saving in this way a considerable implementation time.

Final solution, initial Proposal: We focused here in offering automated average scores and individual reviewes per reviewer.
Final solution: the smart tweak. Conversations with Customer Success and Market Leaders showed that editors valued speed over reviewing every individual assessment, so we removed that step.

In later iterations, we introduced a Save button with several user-specific use cases, so I designed the different drawer states according to each user role and their journey through the workflow. You can explore the Figma handoff here.

Design solution

After several iterations and collaboration across teams, the final implementation evolved from the concept below while remaining very close to the original design. The UI was further refined using PrimeVue components.

Due to confidentiality reasons, I'm unable to share the current production screens, so the prototype below represents the final direction as closely as possible.

Next steps

Future iterations should continue validating collaborative workflows while introducing more intelligent decision support.

Metrics

We reduced reviewer comparison time by approximately 75%, while supporting unlimited reviewers within a single unified workspace. The solution significantly reduced navigation, accelerated ESG assessment validation and established a scalable foundation for future collaboration features. The usability results were good, users found it intuitive at a first glance.
